Entitlement to freeholder information

I am having some trouble with the managing agent appointed by my freeholder. I have major concerns over some major works which they want carried out urgently. I have said that I want to make the freeholder aware of my dissatisfaction and have asked for the names and addresses of the directors of the freehold company, something which I believe I am entitled to under the Landlord and Tenant Act. I have asked for this information twice now and been refused on both occasions. Can you advise who I contact to enforce this? I believe there is also a penalty for not providing me with this information. From what I have read it also seems that the freeholder should have carried out a Section 20 consultation before appointing a managing agent which was not done. I would like some help with this if possible as I believe not carrying out the consultation means they would only be able to recover £100 in each accounting period. The managing agent got in touch with us almost 3 years ago after the freehold was purchased but we never got any information from the freeholder. The FPRA replies: You are quite correct to say that you are entitled to the names of the directors of your freeholder. I take it that you have the full name of the freehold company? One way to get the information is from Companies House in Cardiff. Another way is to approach the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal to get an order to this effect. You can appear in person and no costs can arise. Once you have started your approach they might well give in. You might approach your local CAB to get details of the procedures. I agree, also, that you should have been consulted before a managing agent was appointed but only if your association had been recognised by the freeholder.
