My life long interest is in the politics of inequality. I focus on leasehold issues and facilitating leaseholders getting ‘out from under’ with a Right to Manage practice established sixteen years.

I hold a regular face to face drop-in, in my home town of Brighton where we and our specialists help to sort the issues as volunteers. Since 1996 I have spoken with more than 15,000 leaseholders.

My academic research at the London School of Economics was on gender inequality in trade unions. My interest in leasehold as a focus of inequality began in 1990, with a bill of two million pounds from the then freeholders. This went down to one and a quarter million when I became the Leader of the Opposition.

Using my experience I went on to write and present pioneering courses in block management for the National Federation of Property Professionals.

I suggested the restrictions on forfeiture introduced in the 2002 Act and contribute to working parties on leasehold reform.

Living in flats should be a companionable and supportive experience rather than the adversarial situation we see far too often.
