Maxine Fothergill

Maxine Fothergill is the Managing Director of Amax Estates and Property Services Limited, specialising in Residential Sales, Lettings, Property Management, and Block Management.

Over the years, Maxine has been invited to participate in various government consultative groups concerning the implementation of new legislation introduced through the HA2004, including groups on HHSRS, HMO licensing, tenancy deposits, and more recently, the Leaseholder and Freeholder Reform Act. She has extensive experience serving on various boards, including Orbit Housing Association, The National Federation of Landlords (as Vice Chairman), and the Southern Private Landlords Association.

Maxine played a pivotal role in the CMA report that reviewed Property Management and participated in one of the consultative groups.

In previous roles, she served as the vice chairman of the National Federation of Residential Landlords, which boasted a membership of over 10,000 landlords, and was the branch chairman of her local Southern Private Landlords association. She successfully established a local branch from scratch, growing it to over 400 members.

Although she is not currently practising, Maxine is a qualified counsellor known for her excellent listening skills. She has extensive experience in dealing with people at all levels, having served as a former elected Ward Councillor within the London Borough of Bexley for two terms from 2010 to 2018.

Maxine has also been a trainer for over 20 years and has sat on the London Landlord Accreditation steering group. Initially a pilot scheme, it has since become the most recognised landlord accreditation scheme and has been adopted by the Mayor’s London Rental Standards.

Professionally, Maxine was elected by the membership to serve as the ARLA Propertymark President from 2021 to 2022. She is also regularly invited through her professional affiliations to represent Landlords and Managing Agents at various government consultation groups and to present at many Landlord and Agent events.

In her leisure time, she enjoys renovating old properties and spending time with her two Labrador dogs. More recently, she has cherished time with her two-year-old grandson and her new granddaughter.
